AFRICA/NIGERIA - Two Catholic priests kidnapped in the north-east of Nigeria

Abuja (Agenzia Fides) - Two priests were kidnapped in the early hours of Saturday, February 22. Father Matthew David Dutsemi, of the diocese of Yola, and Father Abraham Saummam, of the diocese of Jalingo, were captured by armed men who, in the early hours of February 22, raided the rectory where the two Catholic priests were staying in Gweda-Mallam, in the Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State, in the north-east of Nigeria.
In a note to the faithful, the Diocese of Yola asks for "prayers that the two priests be released quickly and safely". "We place our hope and trust in the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Priests, to bring them to safety," the statement reads. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides, 24/2/2025)
