ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of bishop of Ajmer

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend John Carvalho, of the clergy of the diocese of Ajmer, India, until now head of Saint Paul’s Sr. Sec. School in Ajmer, as bishop of the same diocese.
Msgr. John Carvalho was born on 10 April 1969 in Margoli, diocese of Udupi. He was awarded a bachelor’s degree in education from Saint Xavier’s Institute of Education and a master’s degree in social work from Nirmala Niketahan, in Mumbai.
He was ordained a priest on 13 May 1996.
He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest of Saint Paul, Kota (1996-1999), head of Saint Theresa, Ladpura (1999-2001), director of the Roman Catholic Diocesan Social Service Society, Ajmer (2001-2007), head of Saint Martin of Tours, Bhawanikhera and head of Saint Paul’s Sr. Sec. School, Ajmer (2010-2015), member of the College of Consultors (2013-2018), parish priest of Saint Paul and head of Saint Paul’s Sr. Sec. School Vallagh Nagar, Kota (2015-2020), secretary of the Commission for Education (2020-2023), and head of Saint Paul’s Sr. Sec. School (since 2020). (Agenzia Fides, 1/3/2025)
