ASIA/MYANMAR - Between suffering and war, the special prayer of the Rosary for the Pope

Monday, 10 March 2025 prayer   pope francis

Yangon (Agenzia Fides) – “In their homes, at 5 p.m. every evening, Catholic families, women, children and the elderly, gather to pray the Rosary for the health of Pope Francis. Others do it in the camps for displaced persons. The faithful are very close to the Pope, they feel sincere affection for him and invoke upon him the special protection of the Virgin Mary”, says to Agenzia Fides Msgr. John Mung-ngawn La Sam, of the Missionaries of the Faith, appointed in October 2024 Bishop of the Diocese of Myitkyina, capital of the Burmese state of Kachin, in the north-east of the country.
“Even in these times of distress, displacement, war and suffering, everyone has joyfully accepted the invitation to pray. Pope Francis is in our hearts”, says the Bishop.
The faithful responded to the appeal launched by the Episcopal Conference of Myanmar, which invited Burmese Catholics from all dioceses to gather to pray the Rosary for the Holy Father. In Yangon, the faithful gathered yesterday in St. Mary's Cathedral: children, young people, families, consecrated people, kneeling, they recited the Rosary with the priests of the diocese. Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, led the prayer from the room where the Pope stayed during his visit to Myanmar in 2017. The communities followed and prayed from their parish churches.
The intention is to maintain a strong spiritual communion with the Pope and with all the faithful who gather in St. Peter's Square or in other parts of the world to pray for the health and recovery of Pope Francis. (PA) (Agenzia Fides, 10/3/2025)
